Press Release
Sabrina Catowiez, a musician from Bamberg, presents an impressive repertoire as a singer-songwriter in her concerts. With her two albums, "Storyteller" (2018) and "Autumn Child" (2021), she transports her audience into her fascinating musical world.
Her lyrics weave tales of journeys and life events—some real, others fictional. Stylistically, she navigates between British folk, indie rock, post-punk, and post-wave, occasionally venturing into highly experimental territory. Her concerts are exhilarating journeys, underscored by an unusual instrument: a solid-body electric saz—a variation of the traditional oriental long-necked lute. This sound is further enriched by percussion, vocal harmonies, a melodica, and various beats, all crafted live by the artist using a loop station. Combined with her distinctively deep voice, these elements create the unique sonic signature of the "Catowiez Sound Project."
Report SPH Bandcontest, City-Final Würzburg 27.07.19 (b-hof)
The evening was opened by a singer-songwriter who stood out from the very beginning, thanks to her professional vocal delivery and a highly unusual instrument: an electric saz. The music was further enriched by the use of a looper pedal, which allowed the artist—from the Bamberg-based CATOWIEZ SOUND PROJECT—to layer additional lead melodies and solos over her chords. Her vocal melodies, often leaning toward the darker side, created a striking atmosphere that captivated both the audience and the jury. The final song, in particular, incorporated a drum machine that lent the performance a unique style and showcased the immense potential of the CATOWIEZ SOUND PROJECT.
Zitat Song Slam München (03.02.2022)
“Sabrina Catowiez from Bamberg is passionate not only about music, but also about the visual arts and performance. Fittingly, she is able to decorate her studio with her own paintings. In keeping with the favorite MuSoC motto—‘learned something new again’—Sabrina introduces us to an instrument we’ve never encountered before: an electric saz, a long-necked lute. Dressed entirely in red, she uses the electric saz to layer loops throughout her song, ‘A Night at Loch Lomond.’ Her deep, rich voice and the instrument transport us sonically to the Scottish Highlands—as if we were strolling casually through Glen Luss.”
