Biography of the Artist:

Painting, Charcoal and Ink Drawing

Sabrina Catowiez is a painter based in Bamberg who specializes in acrylic painting. Her paintings are influenced by the era of Classical Modernism, and her later works are characterized by the use of pure pigments. In the realm of graphic art, she has a distinct preference for charcoal and ink drawing. She further expands her artistic repertoire through hand-pulled prints, including woodcuts and etchings. The artist began her career in London, exploring the human figure and its expressive potential—particularly within the context of the stage—which resulted in a series of dance-inspired acrylic paintings. Upon returning to Germany, Sabrina Catowiez discovered the world of jazz, which became a significant theme in her work. In Germany, she also encountered the art of the "Der Blaue Reiter" (The Blue Rider) group, which inspired an extensive series of animal depictions. In 2004, she organized the first "Kunstpavillon" (Art Pavilion) in Bamberg, a project dedicated to the annual showcase of artists from the Franconia region. For more information, please visit her Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/kunstpavillonbamberg.de.

In 2005, some of her artworks were acquired for the collection of Heinz and Hella Pachen in Rockenhausen, in the Palatinate region. Between 2007 and 2008, Sabrina Catowiez created a series of works inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann, comprising both acrylic paintings and color prints based on woodcuts. In 2007, the artist was accepted into the "Autorengalerie 1" in Munich-Schwabing, and in 2009, she co-founded the "Künstlergruppe Monopteros Bamberg" (KMB) alongside Thomas Johann Dennerlein and Hans Günter Ludwig. From 2011 onwards, Catowiez began incorporating materials such as paper, fabric, and metal into her pieces. Stylistically, these newer works tell stories and are influenced by current global events. In 2013–2014, she produced two installations titled "KUNSTKUBUS" (Art Cube), consisting of painted wooden cubes presented as a multiple-part artwork. During 2014–2015, Sabrina Catowiez was represented as a featured artist by the LDX Artodrome Gallery—with locations in Berlin, Malta, and Hong Kong—and participated in international art fairs, including Art San Diego 2014 and the Shanghai Art Fair 2015. In January 2018, she took on the role of curator for the gallery at the Jazzkeller Bamberg. Her artworks can be found in collections worldwide. A selection from various series of her work—including acrylic paintings and ink drawings—can be viewed in the gallery.

In 2024, she moved her artistic practice into the studio for fine art and architectural photography belonging to her husband, Uwe Gaasch, located at Willy-Lessing-Str. 4 in Bamberg. This space now also houses her inventory. Since September 2025, Sabrina is featured on the online gallery Singulart.com.

Since autumn 2025, Sabrina has been working on a new series of pieces titled "Travel Images" ("Reisebilder"), in which she explores the journeys she has taken with her husband, Uwe Gaasch. These trips have included visits to Liguria, Venice, the mountains, Budapest, Alsace, and Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad), among other destinations.
